The Boyd tartan was designed for the Earl of Kilmarnock in 1948 and recorded with the Lord Lyons office in 1957. As the Earls of Kilmarnock are descended from both the Hays, and the Stewarts they have incorporates elements from the Hay-Leith tartan and the hunting Stewart.
