Clan Montgomery People
Hugh Montgomery (d.1588)
Third Earl of Eglinton, he was a staunch supporter of Mary Queen of Scots and fought for her at the Battle of Langside, where he was taken prisoner. He was declared guilty of treason, but repented in 1571 and accepted James VI. He went on to sit in parliament and became and important political figure of the time.
Known as “Montgomery of Alamein”, he was a respected militarian, and later a successful businessman. He was created a Viscount in 1946.

A respected American photographer, known for his portraits of the Royal family and politicians, including Margaret Thatcher.
